Gym Training

Last year I documented the training regiment that I was going through to train for Soldiers to the Summit. It was intense. Over the course of this year I have been trying a few different things outside of the gym to stay in shape and it has worked but I have felt the need to get back to the gym and start training again.

On our trip to Nepal last year I met an absolute wild man, Chris Morris. Chris is one of the elite trainers at Flatirons Athletic Club in Boulder and he has become a good friend. I started training off and on with Chris this fall and as the weather outside has gotten colder we have turned that into regular training sessions.

Chris is the most "cat like" person I know. It is very typical to see him running up and down the handrail at the gym and showing someone how to lift their body off of the floor with a couple of fingers. What I really like about training with Chris is that we really don't "lift weights." Ok there are a few machines that we use but training with him is more about learning to pick your body off of the floor and manipulate it into what ever position you want to. It is very typical to see us doing handstand pushups or pullups using the underside of the stair case.

I really enjoy the training and encouragement I get from Chris. He is just hard enough in the gym to have the awareness to push you but not go past the limit where you are injured.

The ting that I really like about Chris is that all of the exercises we do are FOR A PURPOSE! This means that we are training FOR something rather than training for the sake of training. It is really nice to know that thei things you do in the gym will directly relate to the things I want to do outside. I know that Chris is an active guy and only does the gym so that he can play to the fullest outside. Thanks to Chris and Flatirons Athletic CLub for the support and I will keep ypu updated on the training progress.
